"...Not anymore," Felih says quietly. He buries his face into Hades' chest for several long, quiet moments, before he turns his head aside to speak.

"If I had gotten the chance to know you... to know the past, I... well, you already know I... wished for the Rejoining to be gentler. Kinder. But even if I did, would we be able to overcome the Song of Oblivion that awaited us? Zodiark shielded us at too great a cost. And yet more sacrifices were needed to revive the land... I'm selfish, darling. I don't like sacrifice."

It was why Azem had condemned both Venat's and the Convocation's plans, after all. There had to have been another way...

"Hydaelyn had the advantage of always finding me first, 'tis true. And it allows ample time to mold my beliefs to her liking," he murmurs. "If I had been able to know all I know now... I still think I would've tried to find another way. Neither of these outcomes make me happy... not after knowing the agony you all have endured for so many eons."

He listens silently. It no longer surprises him, Felih's desire to seek a different way. They had touched upon the subject before, but he still finds it hard to believe that one could be found. Every day Hades asks himself if he could have done anything differently, and the answer is always the same.

I did what I thought was right at the time.

"...Well, all of that will fade when my soul unravels in the aetherial sea. I shall finally be born anew, without the weight of memories of past ages," he says quietly.

Felih's ears droop at that, but his fingers comb gently through his beloved's longer hair, stroking through several times in silence before he murmurs, "I hope you'll be happy, next time 'round." It breaks his heart, knowing Hades has been broken down so cruelly, made to ensure such suffering for thousands of years.

The man he loves deserves better, he thinks. "...for what it's worth, darling, I'll still try. Maybe in another world, I can find a better way. I'll show it to you."

"I'm sure you will." It feels like a certainty with Azem's soul. "I must be content with the knowledge that, at the very least, the world will not end due to another's machinations. If the end does come, it will be after all have tried their very best to live."

He kisses Felih's cheek and puts on a faint smile for their sake. "Enough of that, however... Has the potion been working well?"

Felih is still worried. He can't help it, fretting for his beloved, whom he knows has a habit of masking his emotions. Still, he relaxes at the kiss to his cheek, his skin growing warm at the touch of Hades' lips, and he feels a shy smile spreading across his own.

"It's perfect," he murmurs quietly, ears lowering slightly in a show of vulnerability. "It feels like I'm myself again. Or, like I was meant to be this way. Perhaps it's strange... but it grants me comfort." He leans in, kissing his mate gently and sweetly, letting the touch linger for several moments.

"I can't thank you enough. I can't believe you managed to concoct such a thing..." Let alone present it to Felih as a gift. It means more to Felih than he can say.

He shrugs, looking faintly embarrassed by the praise. "If I were a better alchemist then I could make it permanent. I cannot even make the effects of this one consistent between users."

Implying he may have tested it on himself. Well, he could hardly ask others to drink an unknown concoction.

Felih tilts his head curiously at that bit of information, the implications setting in. "Is that so...? Well, it seems to be working just fine for me," he murmurs, kissing his cheek next, fingers still combing idly through Hades' hair. "And having to retake it isn't the worst thing... the fact it could be done at all is still a wonderful accomplishment," he chirps, stubborn as ever in his praise.

"Especially considering this is a different world with different magicks and ingredients to work with, compared to the worlds we knew. That aside... you're alright? No unexpected side effects...?" Because it would be likes Hades to try and hide any issues with his test batches. Especially if he were testing them on himself...
