While this is indeed contrary to the very premise of the play, Hythlodaeus can only feel all the more affectionate towards his friend. Hades has always been very sentimental, but shy as well; hearing him admit his love so openly is a treat.

"I love you too," Hythlodaeus replies with a smile. "I'll let you know if aught is uncomfortable... But I do rather like it when you are more decisive with me. Mayhap you could see it as indulging me? Or you could give me some orders... Though I suppose you prefer to be ordered yourself, hmm?"
