I am a poor comparison to measure by, but I would say it can take anywhere from two or three centuries for one to begin to grasp that the effect of some careless action taken prior can have lasting repercussions. Some may take longer to arrive at this realisation. Others may quickly grasp it.

I once saw a poor fool attempt to call the rain to water the city gardens. Their haste caused a drought on the neighbouring continent.'Twas difficult to reverse the damage.
